Coverings continue with all bio-security protocols in place

18/03/2020

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis we would like to reassure breeders that coverings and our day-to-day life at Newsells Park Stud continues with bio-security protocols in place.

We are closely following the guidelines set out by the TBA and the NSFA, both of which are following government and BHA guidelines.  Wherever possible our staff are staying at least two metres apart and disposable surgical gloves and facemasks are being worn at all times when staff are working together in barns and yards.

We have the additional advantage that every member of the horse crew lives on the stud, so that the whole of Newsells Park Stud effectively becomes one household, hopefully minimising the risk of the virus entering the property and spreading between members of staff to an absolute minimum.  In addition, wherever possible our office staff are working from home for their own health and the health of the families.

Visitors bringing mares are asked not to leave their vehicles to limit the amount of contact between people.  We have foot baths at every barn anyway irrespective of what’s going on, and likewise have several hand sanitizers in each barn.

We also advise breeders to leave the foal at home if they can. This is something we have been doing for many years and have learned that it has been very effective because the foal isn’t exposed to the breeding shed that potentially has diseases and infections and the mare is much more relaxed when she arrives at the shed because she isn’t thinking about her foal around her.

We take controlling the spread of the virus extremely seriously, but we also want to fulfil our role for you and get your mares in foal.  We are here to help in whatever way that we can, so please contact us if we can be of any assistance and please be assured that unless specifically ordered to stop, we will remain open for business and there to service your mare.

Please be assured that high standards of care and safety for both horse and human are our top priority.  We’ve been in the unfortunate situation of having to have heightened sanitary needs before and are therefore well placed for the current situation.
