Highgarden becomes Nathaniel’s sixth Group winner this year

28/09/2018

Nathaniel sired a new Group winner today with Highgarden gamely winning the Gr.3 Princess Royal Nayef Stakes at Newmarket for owner/breeders Mrs C R Philipson and Mrs H Lascelles.

The three-year-old filly battled well and rallied on the climb to the line under an excellent ride from Frankie Dettori. Earlier in the season she had finished second in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket.

Trainer John Gosden said: “We are over the moon to win a Group 3 race with her.  She has grown quite a lot recently and has been through an awkward phase, as we all do, but she’s really starting to come to herself now.  Highgarden is a filly we’ve always liked and she could well stay in training when there is a good programme of fillies’ races for four-year-olds.”

Bred by Mrs C R Philipson and Lofts Hall Stud, Highgarden is out of the Green Desert mare Regalline, and is a granddaughter of the Gr.1 Tattersalls Gold Cup heroine Rebelline.

It has been another great year for her sire Nathaniel with 6 Group winners plus 3 Stakes winners and 15 Gr/Stks horses already in 2018 alone, including five-time Gr.1 winner Enable.
