Without Caution became the first winner in the US for his first-season sire Without Parole by landing the opening maiden race at Saratoga today. Ridden by Jose Lezcano, the two-year-old colt came with an impressive late run to make an eye-catching debut victory winning by one and three-quarters lengths. (View the race here courtesy of TDN)

Trainer Cherie DeVaux said: “He’s the horse that had the looks physically. He’s really trained like he’s got a lot of ability. I wasn’t really sure how he was going to handle all of this because he was a little immature, but he handled it all. Without Parole is a stallion we should be thinking about.”

Owned and bred by John Gunther, also the joint owner of Without Parole with his daughter Tanya Gunther, Without Caution was raised at their US stud Glennwood Farm. He is out of the Street Cry mare Mama Tembu, a half-sister to Stage Magic, dam of US Triple Crown winner and one of the best young sires in the world Justify.

Owner John Gunther said: “They thought a lot of him going into the race. At the farm, the fellow that was breaking them really liked him. He was training well. He worked well and he looked good on post parade.

“We shipped the mare over to England to Without Parole. Then we flew the mare back in utero and ended up with a nice Without Parole being a US -bred. He has turned out to be really good looking, was training well up to his debut. We were pretty excited about it. It’s certainly nice to see Without Parole get a winner in the US.”

Last week the Without Parole filly Lady Justice also won on her debut landing the British EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Epsom over 7f. She too showed an impressive turn of foot to run on well inside the final furlong.

Trained by Stuart Williams and owned by J W Parry and Mrs C Shekells, Lady Justice was bred by Brook Stud Bloodstock & W A Tinkler. She is out of the Pivotal mare Balance, a full sister to Stakes winner and Stakes producing dam Azabara, from the family of Gr.1 winner Arapaho.

A son of Frankel and winner of the prestigious Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes, Without Parole is looking to be an exciting young sire with six winners from his first-crop already.
