Equiano’s ‘Queen of Speed’ lands her eighth Gr/Stks races

14/01/2019

Equiano’s ‘Queen of Speed’ Belvoir Bay struck again at the weekend winning the Gr.3 Las Cienegas Stakes at Santa Anita.  It was her eighth Gr/Stks race, and fifth Graded race which also includes the Gr.2 Monrovia Stakes at the same track.

She won the race, which was switched to the dirt due to significant rainfall overnight, by an authoritative length and a quarter for trainer Peter Miller and owner Gary Barber.

“She’s just unbelievable,” said Miller.  “She can do anything, any distance, up to a mile.  Any surface, she’s the kind.  I think this may have opened some doors to us in the future, to possibly run on dirt.  I’ll talk to Mr. Barber and do what we want to do, but we know she can sprint on the grass, obviously.”

She is yet another consistent, tough and high-class sprinter for her sire Equiano, the proven option!

Belvoir Bay was bred by the late Lennie Peacock and sold for 20,000gns at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 to Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock.  Following her impressive run of Stakes success in USA from 2016 onwards she sold last year for the $625,000 at the Fasig-Tipton November Breeding Stock Sale to Justin Casse.

Out of the winner Path of Peace (Rock of Gibraltar), she is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Please Sing (Royal Applause) from the family of the triple Gr.1 winning sprinter Redkirk Warrior.
