The fastest son of Frankel. Winner of the prestigious Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The first yearlings by our stallion A’Ali were well received at this week’s Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale with two making six figures and resulting in an average of £57, 125 for eight sold.
Anthony Stroud of Stroud Coleman signed for the two top lots. Offered by Lynn Lodge Stud, Lot 206 (pictured) a colt out of Alushta (Royal Applause) and a half brother to listed winner and Gr.3 Molecombe Stakes runner-up Rocket Rodney, realised £150,000.
“He was a very athletic colt,” Stroud said of lot 206. “He’s going to go to George Scott, who trained the half-brother, and he was a very good representative of the sire. He should be a two-year-old and I liked him very much.”
Stroud also purchased lot 173, a half-sister to the Stakes winner Clarendon House out of Walaaa (Exceed And Excel) consigned by S Fanning Sales. After signing the docket, Stroud revealed his purchase would carry the same colours as A’Ali did.
“I bought her for Shaikh Duaij, who raced A’Ali,” said the agent. “I thought this was a very good example of the sire’s progeny. She’s a very nice filly and I’m very glad to have her, although I won’t know who’s going to train her until Shaikh Duaij tells me.
“We bought A’Ali at the breeze-up sale here a few years ago and now there’s his first-crop yearlings here. His stock look really good, very athletic. They’re early two-year-old types and I’ve been very pleased with what I’ve seen.”
In addition, the colt out of dual Gr.3 winner Maureen sold to Longways Stables for £50,000, and a half-sister to 4-time winner Lawful Command realised £32,000 when knocked down to Kubler Racing. Two further yearlings made £30,000 each selling to Brian Ellison and Bushypark Stables, who also purchased another colt by A’Ali for £26,000.
A’Ali was a brilliant juvenile speedster, who blitzed the field to win the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot on only his second start, and went on to win three Gr.2 races over the minimum trip as a two-year-old, including the Prix Robert Papin and the Flying Childers Stakes. As a three-year-old, A’Ali trained on to win the Gr.3 Coral Charge and the Gr.2 Sapphire Stakes before being placed in the Gr.1 Nunthorpe Stakes behind Battaash.
He will be represented by 10 more yearlings at the Tattersalls Somerville Sale next week.
