The fastest son of Frankel. Winner of the prestigious Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Newsells raised Lake Forest swooped late to land the valuable A$10million Golden Eagle at Rosehill for owners Tony Bloom & Ian McAleavy, trainer William Haggas, and breeders and long standing clients John & Tanya Gunther.
The victory was all the more remarkable given that it was the colt’s first time running over seven and a half furlongs and he was a three-year-old racing against many four-year-olds, not to mention the travelling to Australia.
Jockey Kieren Fallon said: “I thought if we used too much energy early on, we’d have been taking away our turn of foot, so I had to ride him quite brave and hope we got a bit of luck.”
Lake Forest also won the Gr.2 Gimcrack Stakes over six furlongs at York as a two-year-old. This year he finished second in the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot on his seasonal debut and also took the runner-up spot in the Gr.3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury.
Bred by John & Tanya Gunther under Sahara Group Holdings, Lake Forest was born and raised by Newsells Park Stud. He was also sold by the stud at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 to Eighteen Bloodstock.
He is out of the US Gr.3-placed winner Lady Aquitaine (El Prado) and is a half-brother to US Gr.3 winner Star Fortress and the Listed winners Lady Of Kyushu and Clint Maroon.
