The Tattersalls October Yearling Sales proved to be ‘Magnificent’ for Newsells Park Stud with the stud finishing the two weeks as the leading consignor at both the Tattersalls October Sale Book 1 and Book 2.  The stud sold 47 horses for 13,333,200 million guineas, and in Book 1 the 18 horses sold realised an average of 614,267 guineas.

The highlight of the consignment came on the opening day with the Galileo colt out of Shastye being knocked down to MV Magnier for 3,400,000 guineas (Lot 109 – picture courtesy of www.tattersalls.com).  An international cast of potential purchasers raised their hand for the sale topper including Ballylinch Stud’s John O’Connor alongside Mick Flanigan, Simon Crisford and Japanese trainer Mitsu Nakauchida who was the eventual underbidder.

The regally bred yearling is a full brother to Group winners Secret Gesture, Sir Isaac Newton (who realised 3.6 millions guineas in 2013) and most recently the Group 2 Beresford Stakes winner Japan who was purchased at Book 1 last year for 1,300,000 guineas.

Julian Dollar of Newsells Park Stud said:  “She is a wonderful mare and the pedigree says it all, but timing is everything and Japan’s Beresford win just revitalised everything and brought back some interest and vibrancy to the pedigree.

“This is a lovely colt, and has always been a lovely horse.  I have to thank everyone at home – yearling manager Gerry [Meehan] and his team have done a fabulous job, the whole draft looks superb and this horse was in top order. They have all been a really happy team to work with this autumn.”

Newsells sold three more million plus yearlings in Book 1, including another Galileo yearling, out of Posset a full-sister to the champion Midday he was offered on behalf of Sahara Group Holdings (John and Tanya Gunther). and purchased by Stroud Coleman for 1,100,000 guineas (Lot 41).

Stroud Coleman also purchased the Dubawi colt out of Yummy Mummy, a half-brother to multiple Gr.1 and 1,000 Guineas winner Legatissimo, for 1,200,000 guineas (Lot 202).

The last lot through the ring was the Dubawi daughter of Giants Play selling to Stroud Coleman for 1,200,000 guineas on the final day (Lot 389). The Grade 2 winning daughter of Giant’s Causeway has already produced two Group/Listed performers and is a daughter of the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile heroine Playful Act, herself a sibling to the Group 1 winners Nathaniel and Great Heavens.

Summing up the incredible sale Newsells Park Stud general manager, Julian Dollar, said: “We thought we’d brought our strongest draft here,” said Dollar.

“It is both humbling and gratifying that the purchasers have felt the same. It is a reflection of the great job done by the team at home.”

Indeed the yearlings sales capped a great year for Newsells Park Stud, with several more Gr.1 winners bred/raised by the stud as well including Lightning Spear, Without Parole and The Tin Man.
