New for 2025.
The only son of Night Of Thunder standing at stud, a super 2yo & Classic 3yo miler.
Nathaniel’s three-year-old daughter Sumo Sam landed back to back Gr.2 wins with a brave victory in the Gr.2 Betfred Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes at Doncaster today. More Group success for Nathaniel’s current Classic generation, and another reason not to miss his potential stars at the forthcoming yearling sales.
The tenacious Sumo Sam made the running from early on and soon went clear. Despite facing tough opposition in the last furlong, she gamely battled on and pulled away again to win by one and a half lengths.
Last month she also won the Gr.2 Lillie Langtry Stakes for her connections, joint trainers Paul & Oliver Cole and owner/breeders Ben & Sir Martyn Arbib.
Oliver Cole said: “That was absolutely incredible. A furlong out it looked as though Sumo Sam was going to be swallowed up but it was almost like she was idling in front and she pulled it out again. She’s a very classy filly and very, very tough and very, very game.
She’s potentially a Cup horse for the future. She could next go to the Prix de Royallieu in France. She’s entered in that and you normally get soft ground, so that’s a definite possibility.”
Sumo Sam is the first foal out of the Lope de Vega mare Seaduced, a half-sister to Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 Pretty Polly Stakes runner-up Stay Alert (Fastnet Rock) and Stakes winner Star Rock (Fastnet Rock). The second dam is the Gr.2 Park Hill Stakes runner-up Starfala (Galileo) who is out Farfala (Linamix) is a full-sister to the Gr.1 Prix de Saint Cloud hero and sire Fragrant Mix and the Gr.1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Alpine Rose.
