New Gr.2 winner for Nathaniel with Alleno success in Cologne

Classic sire, Nathaniel, celebrated a new Gr.2 winner today with Alleno landing the Gr.2 Sauren Dachfonds Preis at Cologne by a comfortable two and a half lengths on his four-year-old debut.

Trained by Marcel Weiß for owner/breeder Gestut Hof Ittlingen won the former Gerling Prize under Sibylle Vogt. Alleno was in third place and had a perfect race, in the home stretch he easily took the lead and ultimately won in style.

“Alleno showed us again today the class he showed us last year. After the Derby, his form was gone, but after the break since October, we liked him again in his work. We didn’t submit the late entry for nothing,” said Marcel Weiß in the first moments after the race.

According to trainer Marcel Weiß, Alleno could now go far at the Spring Meeting in Iffezheim, and looks to have an exciting year ahead.

In 2024, Alleno finished second in the Gr.2 Sparkasse Kolnbonn – 189th Union-Rennen also at Cologne and Gr.3 WETTSTAR.de – Bavarian Classic at Munich before coming fourth in the Gr.1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg.

Alleno is bred by owner/breeder Gestut Hof Ittlingen and is a half-sister to sire and Gr.2 Oleander-Rennen winner Alessio out of the Adlerflug mare Alandia, a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix du Cadran winner Altano and Gr.1-placed Araldo.

Nathaniel is now the sire of 34 Gr.1/Gr.2 winners and performers, including nine Gr.1 winners.
