Waldlerche proving to be a top-class broodmare

04/06/2018

It proved to be a great day for the Newsells broodmare Waldlerche at Chantilly yesterday with two of her progeny successful in Group company, Waldgeist and Waldlied.

Her first foal, Waldgeist, won the Gr.2 Grand Prix de Chantilly convincingly for trainer Andre Fabre and the ownership partnership of Gestut Ammerland and Newsells Park Stud.

Owner-breeder Dietrich von Boetticher said: “He was already a good horse last year, but some horses take time to mature and he is one of them.  He looked great today and did it nicely.  Andre Fabre says he will run next in the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.”

The four-year-old is clearly thriving this season having also won the Gr.3 Prix d’Hedouville comfortably at Longchamp in May.  A winner of the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud at two, and achieving several Stakes performances at three including second in the Gr.1 QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, he is proving a consistent colt at the highest level.

Later on at Chantilly, Waldgeist’s half-sister Waldlied (New Approach) finished second in the Gr.3 Prix de Royaumont, having been unlucky not to get a clear run, for trainer Andre Fabre and the owner/breeder partnership of Gestut Ammerland and Newsells Park Stud.

Waldgeist is bred by Newsells Park in partnership with Gestut Ammerland and Coolmore under the Waldlerche Partnership.  By Galileo, his dam Waldlerche is a Group 3-winning daughter of Monsun whose half-siblings include St Leger winner Masked Marvel and the Listed winner Waldnah.

Waldlerche also has a Sea The Stars two-year-old colt and a Kingman yearling colt, and her 2018 foal is a full-sister to Waldgeist.
